The Raggedy Man

Click on the title to hear Jane Ross read the James Whitcomb Riley poem "The Raggedy Man" in May, 1949. Copied from the original acetate Wilcox-Gay Recordio Disc using a Yamaha P-350 turntable and Audio Technica cartridge, connected to a Linux PC using an Art USB Phono Plus preamp, and recorded at 33RPM in Audacity. I removed the pops and clicks using Audacity's "Click Removal" tool, and reduced the groove noise by knocking out frequencies above 10KHz with the equalizer tool. I adjusted the speed to match a similar recording done with a lower-quality BSR turntable at 78RPM.

Blast from the Past

Embedded Video

A Paper on Bayesianism and Spam

Once upon a time, I wrote a column for PC World about Bayesian spam-filtering. Recently, I took a philosophy class and had the opportunity to delve a little deeper into the science behind statistical spam-filtering methods. Here, in all its nerdy glory, is the result.
